Jatindra K Nayak

Educated at Ravenhaw College,Cuttack and Merton College, Oxford, Jatindra K Nayak is Professor of English , Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. He has won Hutch-Crossword Indian Fiction Translation Award,2004 and KATHA Translation Award, 1997. He has co-translated into English Fakirmohan Senapati’s Chha Mana Atha Guntha (Six aAcres and a Third, University of Callifernia Press,2005: Penguin Books,2006. His English translation of Chandrsekhar Ratha’s Odia novel Yantrarudha was published by Oxford University Press in 2003. He has also translated into English Fakir Mohan Senapati’s autobiography(The Story of my Life, Satirtha,1997),a Manoranjan Das’s play August Na(The Ninth of august, Sahitya Akademi), Das’s autobiography, Smruti Sanlap(A Dialogue with Memory, National Book Trust,2002), Senapati’s novel Mamu(The Matternal Uncle, Rupantar, 2006) and J.P. Das’s Desa, Kala, Patra(A Time Elsewhere, Penguin,2009). He has edited several thematic collections which include Reminiscences: Excerpts from Odia and Bangla autobiographies (Co-edited with Subha Chakravorty-Dasgupta,Jadavpur University, 2004), Fakirmohan Senapati: Perspectives on his fiction(Prafulla,2004) From Bondage to Freedom: Memories of the Freedom Struggle in Odisha(Co-edited with Arun Mohanty, Rupantar,2006), Meeting the Mahatma: Gandhiji’s Visit to Odisha, Rupantar,2007), Memory, Images, Imagination: An Anthology of Bangla and Odia Writings on Colonial Burma(Co-edited with Parthapratim Bhoumik,2010). He was editorial advisor of Imaging Odisha(Chief Editor Herman Kulke, Prafulla,2012).
